My name is Natasha, I got my nickname Tucha from my sister. Some of my friends call me Tuch or Tash. My indigenous ancestors are Taino/ Borikua and Andean/Quechua. I'm about to turn 33 yrs old. I studied Sociology and Latin American history in the academic world and then dove deeper into my studies of my culture when I moved to Ecuador and lived in the Amazon for about 3 years. There I was given the opportunity to learn this beautiful craft which first became popular in the Andes region and I became addicted ever since. I taught myself further by observing necklaces and earrings I bought, drawing dots on paper, and using basic math.
I take my beads with me everywhere, and am guaranteed to spill them wherever I set up e on the couch, in bed, at my family's houses. I've been practicing for about 9 years and I say practicing because there's always more to learn which keeps it fun. I love teaching bead weaving and hope to set up classes soon. I believe craftwork reconnects us with our relationship to earth as it helps us appreciate where things come from, especially because we live in such a fast-pace mass producing and consuming society.
Anyway, I'm all about adorning ourselves and being coquetos every day!
