I have always loved still life paintings of fruits but have never seen one specific to my culture’s food. Over the past 6 years or so, I have been learning about the history of food, where crops originated, how they have transformed, how versatile they can be, and the special connections they have to a place and people.

I grew up with some of these crops and was introduced to some while living in Ecuador and learning how to cultivate them. Growing food can have spiritual ties to us which are still practiced to this day but I don’t feel right disclosing what I have learned on social media. Some examples of this is the intention, the steps that you take before planting, harvesting, and eating. The traditions passed on that have spiritual ties to each crop and how they are used in ceremony. This Is the food native to the lands of Ecuador, Puerto Rico, the Caribbean and other parts of so called Americas, which are a big part of my culture.
